| ABOUT ME |
My name is Lyric Powers. Yes, really, it's on my
birth certificate and all that. My name is not
what makes me cool.
I work at home doing graphic and web design, SEO,
and several other random things for a handful of
e-businesses. I'm slowly but surely building my
own company - Lyric
Powered Design.
I co-own and operate an online community for
fringey, counter-culture parents and families
called Global
Family Room. I am lucky to be working on this
project with a great group of 9 other ladies. They
are my soul sisters.
I have a 4 year old son named Kiernan Ambrose
Lockhart. The fact that I had a child when I was
19 does not say anything about me other than I
wasn't careful. I am a good mother and my son is
wicked awesome and way too smart for his own good.
He is also a rock star. And yes, I am still with
his father. We have been together for 7 and a half
years.
I grew up in Athens, OH, home of Ohio University.
I haven't lived there for 5 years, but I'm still a
townie through and through. Though, so much has
changed since I moved away (starting with the
invasion of Walmart) that it doesn't really feel
like home anymore. I currently reside in a little
mill town outside of Asheville, NC. This won't
last.
I am a liberal, open-minded, pro-choice
vegetarian. I use herbal shampoo, eat organic
food, and go barefoot a lot. I am not a hippie.
I have a general dislike for most things
associated with the country I live in.
Particularly the government and those who run it.
At one time or another, you may find yourself
thinking that I'm the nicest person you know.
Don't be fooled.
I can be a shameless flirt when the mood strikes
me, think nothing of it.
I can be both shockingly forthright and
aggravatingly evasive. Sorry...
I sometimes say fuck a lot. That does not mean I
have no manners.
I am not especially concerned with what you think
of me, but every girl wants someone to like her
sometimes.
I am an artist. It's that simple really.
I have a sense of humor and I don't like people
who lack one. They make me sad in pants. By the
way, I sometimes make really bad jokes. Let it
slide.
I am of the technological age, but I don't
necessarily dig it.
I love music. Really, I mean, look at that list of
bands. That's not even all of the stuff I listen
to, that's just how much I typed up before I
decided to stop. I had an advantage in my life,
that I never even knew was all that unique until I
became an adult, in that my parents exposed me to
a lot of great stuff while I was growing up.
I am an avid reader. Reading and music go great
together. Again, that little list over there is
not what I limit myself to, it's just how much I
typed up before I decided to stop. Thanks to the
wonder (horror) of MySpace, I am now very good
friends with one of those authors.
I also have a wide and varied taste in and love of
movies. I can find something enjoyable in just
about any film ever made. That does not include
anything starring Kevin Costner (Wyatt Earp filled
me with rage).
I dig some TV as well, but I am not willing to pay
for cable and therefore only watch things that
come in on my antenna or I have seasons of on DVD.
It is likely that I have never seen your favorite
shows.
I have not had anything even slightly resembling
long hair since I was four years old. It just
doesn't work for me.
The only time I've ever worn makeup in my life was
when I went through a brief black lipstick phase
when I was around 13. I wouldn't even know what to
do with makeup if I were to one day further lose
grip on my sanity and decide to start wearing it.
You can't tell in most of the photos that exist of
me these days, but I have a lot of freckles. The
most prominent one on my face you will always
notice though, it's about an inch below the middle
of my left eye. That's a very important bit of
information. Freckles make the world go round.
I could go on and on listing random "facts" about
myself, but I've decided to spare you.
