Animal Euthanasia
Family Jules asked me to put this on this group for discussion. Do you think Animal Euthanasia is inhumane? I am doing it for a school project, and I'm trying to get it from a diverse group of people.

First post ever on a forum so I hope I am doing this right :P Shouldn't be too hard.
I don't know if you want a more detailed answer, or if it is too late for you to get an answer but no, I personally do not think it is inhumane. I've had several friends with pets who have taken them to the vet to be euthanized because the animal is so miserable.

I hope I'm not too late, as well.

I agree with Donna. Euthenasia is THE most humane thing to do for a pet that is in pain or suffering. It's cruel to keep them alive or let them continue if their quality of life is horrible or if they're in pain.

I HATE that they have to use it for overpopulation in shelters, however. But it's a sad fact of life, not enough people spay or neuter their pets, and there are even some sick feck. who think animals are disposable.

Hope that helps :)

I believe it depends on the situation. I worked in a vet clinic for over a year so I have seen the good and the bad. Obviously in cases where they will die anyway it is the best thing to do. Like when my 8 year old throroughbred ex-racehorse broke his neck on a fence in the pasture. I had to make the call while I was driving the half hour to the farm from work. I never got to say goodbye but he needed to be freed from the pain. Then there was a kitten brought in to the clinic not more than 3 months old, pure white. It had played to rough with the owner's child and drew blood(like all kittens do). The owner demanded it be put to sleep and the vet did it. The poor thing had not even experianced life. Same thing with a 6 month old great dane. Fully vaccinated, stayed indoors. One day it attacked the owner's friend out of the blue. The owner insisted it must have rabies. dogs are typically quarantined after attacks if they are up to date on vaccines. This baby was euthanized and had it's head chopped off and sent for testing(at the owner's insistance). I cleaned the blood off the walls. Came back negative. earlier that day I spent time in the run with the pup telling it how it would be ok and would just go home in a few days. no one told me. The more i work in the animal field, the more I come to hate people. I know this is way to late but thought i would share anyway.
