Asperger Autism Anyone?

Hello my wise and intelligent community of redheads. Our goddaughter has been officially diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, a form of autism. We have all suspected this for a while and I have done much online research. I am reaching out to see if anyone has children with Asperger and what their words of wisdom may be. Thank you ahead of time!

(I have a photo of my goddaughter in my photos folder - her name is Rosemary - and she is gorgeous. She is 17)

 Autism is a different way of relating to the world. But not to worry,a lot of brilliant and well-adjusted people have Asperger's. Most of them excel in fact, in their field of interest. Bill Gates has it...............and from what I have read,I suspect Mozart had it as well. An esteemed and practising psychologist (who I know personally) as well. Your god daughter can have a wonderful life with the proper treatment and understanding people around her.

Eh, I suspect I have it, but I haven't been diagnosed or anything. I've read a lot about it and a good deal of what I've read sounds painfully familiar.

If anything, I imagine you should treat her as you would any other person. I don't know what she's like, but I have a lot of difficulty relating to people and a tendency to offend others when I'm not really trying to. I feel unloved and disconnected from everyone I meet, and though it's a feeling I'm used to, it's a feeling I hate all the same. So...just tell her that you love her, and tell her that it's all right if she can't please everyone.

Rosemary's a lovely girl.
