I thought I'd try something different this time around. I've managed to dig up an extremely old title, 2002 to be exact, and thought I'd give it a try once more. I have two seperate reviews, one for the single player, one for the multiplayer. Let us start, shall we?
Note: These are reviews based off demo versions only.Alien vs. Predator II/Single Player: Alright, storyline. There are three seperate storylines in this title, lets start with the
Marine storyline.
Marine: One of your comrades has been taken by the alien hordes, it is your mission to rescue your comrade. Yea, that's the basic of the storyline, onto game play! Holy shiznit. an alien!
*shoots blindly* Yea, that's basically it, lol! You can use a variety of weapons, such as a knife, launcher, machine gun, and pistol; with pick ups such as grenade and health along the way. This level is actually extremely dark, so try to conserve your flashlight when enemies are nearby. You'll have to make it to the end of the map, and back out again with the entire hive following behind you. Lol,
scary. This is the easiest of the levels.
Alien: You are an
Alien,
sweet, that has been captured,
boo, but escapes,
yay! Your mission is to reach freedom. Gameplay, it's extremely fun to play as the
Alien. You're fast and can climb on walls (
nice!). Sad part, you're a melee character, against armed
Marines and auto turret systems (
hooo-shite!). Your agility makes up for not having any ranged weapons, just climb along the ceiling and pounce down onto your foe, literally tearing them apart by slapping around like a school girl (lol). This is the funnest of the levels.
Predator: You're a
Predator and your comrade has been knocked out/killed by
Marines, he is then transported for what appears to be genetic testing. Your mission, is to track the vehicle and infiltrate the bass.
Bah easier said, than done. As the
Predator, you have all the fancy and ass-kicking shiznit you should have from the movies (sweeeeeet); cloak, infrared, ultra-violet, spears, the disk, everything! You must make it past heavily-armed
Marines and track the transport vehicle into the bass. From there is anyones guess. I didn't follow the vehicle close enough and ended up being locked out side, with
no way of sneaking in! This is the hardest of the levels, even when you have such a
kick-arse avatar!
Alien vs. Predator II/Multiplayer: The demo I found mainly works only on LAN (local area network), which means you can't play people in Japan, sorry. The demo has only one map level, but it's a decent size if you're facing around 5-10 people; there are additonal maps, you just have to find them. All charaters can be played in the same match, which means you can have
Alien vs.
Predator vs.
Marine, nice! Only flaw with that is is that a
Marine can't pick up
Predator items, and vice versa; which sucks. Gameplay online (LAN) can get very intense, especially when it's like 5
Aliens vs. 1
Predator and 3
Marines.
Graphics: Overall, I did not love the graphics. People lagged through floors, pick ups vanished, and the
mission failed screen was too sudden. Basically, Sierra could have done better with graphics, but the gameplay was decent.
Best: The best of the two? Multiplayer, hands down. if you have a LAN, install this on it and have a massive LAN party. Anyways, that's my review of
AVP II.
