Done with smoking

Well, after nine years, this month I decided to quit smoking. It hasn't been that hard, I believe that if you wanna quit, you have to go cold turkey. I find reducing, easing up on smoking is actually harder than quit. Quitting is simple, I just don't buy or smoke no more! Yeah, you do miss it now and then, after a good meal, after sex, in the morning, with a warm cup of coffee, and I believe that smokers that quit the habit, will forever miss cigarretes. You can try to tell yourself otherwise, but deep inside, yes, you miss it! But it's very harmful to your health. I started coughing and all that, then I decided to quit. Plus, I chew Red Man, and keeping two tobacco habits at the same time, doesn't make any sense.

However, I'm not, and I will never be one of those annoying anti-tobacco people. Get a life! I think like that, it's your body, your money, and as long as you're not blowin' smoke on someone's face, it's your own goddamn business!!! People, mind your own business, if a guy wants to smoke, leave him alone!

I understand family members and people you know bitching about your smoking, that's because they care about you, and they know the cigarretes may harm you, and they might lose you in the future. But then a completely stranger telling you to quit smoking, or criticizing you, oh come on, like someone who doesn't even know you gives a damn about your health! Truth is a lot of people like to put others down and that's a fact. "I'm not a smoker, I have no addictions, you do, therefore I'm better than you and I can tell you what to do!" - that's what it is. I find anti-smoking people annoying and freaking pointless.

I quit smoking by myself, nobody had to tell me a damn thing. I just went like a day without cigarretes, then I was like, what the hell, I'm gonna quit this crap, don't seem like I'm missing it that much. Well, so far, it's working. Just thought of sharing this here. Yes, you taste food better, you breathe better, and you feel better.

But if you wanna quit you have to be willing to quit. Not because someone you don't even know orders you to. It's a personal choice, and yes, it is a good choice. One thing I say, there's no such a thing as "Trying to quit", if you already say "I'm trying", you are already considering the possibility of a failure, exposing a weakness. Instead, say you quit, and I'm through with this! Drink plenty of water, and eat plenty of fruits. It helps.

Thank you folks. I think this time it's for real, haven't smoked ever since. Yes, I do miss it, but I think I'm doing great without it. I hear y'all, thanks a lot for all the support, I had no idea that anybody read this. Thank you!

Moderation in all things in life, Red.

Instead of it being a 'habit' you've made it a 'decision' whether to do something or not.

I smoked a lot, drank a lot 'back in the day', but have learned to practice moderation.

"there's a time and place"

I didn't drink or smoke for 5 years, and that wasn't that big of a deal, LOL(no programs, just stopped doing it) Now, I don't feel so terrible the next day if I decide to have a smoke or drink, because I'm not going overboard.

hey i wish u all the best, its damn hard to quit! i used to smoke a lot all the time, now only occasionally when drunk. the next day i'm usually sorry too, it just makes me feel sick now. its so true that its something u will always think of in the back of your mind, they always smell really good when someone else has one too. i miss the idea of smoking more than  the reality!

I'm glad that you quit smoking. I too use to snoke but I had to give that up when I got pregnant. For me it wasn't hard at all. For one I had morning sickness and the smell made we want to puke and two I was not going to polute my baby's lungs. I still occasionally smoke when I drink or when I am EXTREMELY pissed off. My youngest two children have asthma so it is a must. If you smoke and come to my house you better believe that you are smoking outisde. My husband smokes BUT not around them. KUDOS to you for being strong enough to quit!

Power to you man.

I stopped for my little brother and sister.

Yes, it was only for a couple of months, but you get my point.

Those anti-smokers drive me insane as well.

Good luck!!

I quit ten years ago.  Cold turkey was definitely the way to go, but I probably quit a hundred times before it stuck.

Now I'm one of those annoying people that hacks loudly if someone blows smoke in my direction, though every once in a while, a faint wisp brings back the wonderful memories.

quitting sucks. but life's way better without 'em.

good luck ole red.
