Why can't sick people stay home

It's just days before Christmas and I caught a cold. I woke up yesterday with a sore throat. Thinking it was the dry air in the house, I put on the humidifier.  No such luck.......I'm sick.  The only place I could have got it was the grocery store.  I just hate it when I'm shopping and I hear people coughing. I feel like saying to them....GO HOME, YOU ARE GOING TO GET EVERYONE HERE SICK!.  Some people don't care.  They figure, if they are sick, everyone else should get it too.

This blog is nothing against those who are forced to go to work.  I know many bosses don't care if you are sick or not. This blog is about people who are sick and out grocery shopping.  I have avoided the malls by shopping early for Christmas, but I have to go to the grocery store.

I hope I am better for Christmas Eve.  I'm going to my parent's house and I do not want to get them sick.  If the cold turns into the flu, I may have to stay home and have a sucky holiday.

I actually feel about the same. It actually helped me to shovel the snow in the driveway today. I guess something about the nice clean cool air.  Thanks for all the well wishes.  I just hope I am better by Monday night. My Dad is 85 and had had a bad year with his health and I wouldn't want to chance him getting sick.

I disagree about carrying on with their lives to an exent. If you are coughing, sneezing, have a fever, and a runny nose.....you are more likely going to infect those around you.  These people should stay home from malls and grocery stores.

Am I victim? Yes, I guess so.  A victim of a careless person who didn't care about anyone else but themselves.  Have you ever been in a grocery store and seen a snot faced kid coughing?  This poor kid should be home where he/she would feel better and not infect others.

I do agree that sick people need to stay home if they, but you can't rule out the fact that sick people also need to carry on with their lives just as they would if they weren't sick.  Plus you should know more than any of us considering you're into medical-related things, being sick helps you create immunities within your body, especially when you're young.  Mostly why you're physically feeling bad isn't caused by whatever ailment you have, it's caused by your own body fighting off whatever is inside of you.... so it's a good thing.

Plus, since when does having a cough equal being sick?  You could be a smoker, or have something in your throat and not be sick at all.  OR you could be sick days before developing any sort of respiratory problem.  It works both ways.

Sorry I'm not really attacking you, I just think you're playing the victim here.  Either way, get well soon... in time for Christmas at least.  Advil, hot showers, and chicken noodle soup have always worked for me.... unless my temperature is above 100 lol then I would advise seeing a physician.

Thanks, I've been drinking lots of tea and juice.  I feel no worse today, so I guess that's better than what it could be.

Brandi, I tried adding a photo, but unfortunately it didn't work.  I can add one when I write a blog, but not when I comment on one.

It's a nasal irrigation system that's been around for years. Saline water goes in one nostril and comes out the other.  It helps relieve congestion and cleans out the sinuses.

what is a neti pot? I hear you about people staying home when they are sick. I have two boys that each missed a day of school with the sore throat and cold crap. My daughter is now getting it and the hoildays are coming....UGH!

More people are using them now since Oprah had them on her show.  I'm hoping if I can use it 2-3 times a day maybe I can flush out the virus out of my body sooner. I doubt it, but I'm going to try.

I once worked as a substitute school nurse and I got sick a lot.  At least when you are around kids or in a medical setting you almost expect to get sick.

So far only a sore throat, mild congestion, and painful ears when swallowing.  I've been drinking lots of water and orange juice and using a neti pot frequently to flush out the germs.  Hopefully by Monday night I'll be feeling better. I hope all of you can avoid this cold or flu.

MRSA is a scary thing. I don't blame you for being afraid of it.

I hear ya there, with the hospital thing. Thank god they give us free flu shots and hep shots! I'm still terrified of MRSA though.

Anyhoo, I'm sorry you're sick! There's been a nasty bug going around and it usually starts with the sore throat and seems to be a cold at first. Hope that's not the case with you! D:
